Unless you have this kind of land available around your home, a standalone turbine might not work for you. They work best if they’re in a big, open space where there’s nothing to slow down the wind: think in a massive field – or even better, on top of a hill. Standalone or pole-mounted wind turbinesįree-standing wind turbines are likely to be more powerful than those that fit on a roof – but only if you put them in the right place. But since they’re not as big, they tend to be less powerful, usually generating 1-2kW. They’re usually cheaper to install than standalone turbines. Putting them on the roof gives them the best height to take advantage of the wind blowing over your house. ![]() ![]() These small wind turbines sit on top of your roof, just like solar panels would. Generally, you could have 2 main types of wind turbine installed at home. Want to know more about the science behind wind energy? Read our full guide to the UK’s favourite renewable power source. Find out more about the ideal spot for a home wind turbine below. That’s why domestic wind turbines are only recommended for people who live in rural, extra-blustery areas. Obviously, when you have one in your back garden, you can’t have it built to the same scale, so you won’t capture nearly as much energy. Regular wind turbines are usually very tall, and have gigantic blades, to catch as much wind power as possible. This spinning turns a shaft inside the turbine, which powers a generator, which turns the kinetic energy of the spinning motion into electricity. When the wind blows, it pushes the blades of the turbine and makes them spin. Like bigger wind turbines, home turbines harness the energy of the breeze to turn it into electricity. The basic science is the same, but home wind turbines are more compact.įind out more about full-size wind turbines and how they work, in our complete guide How does a home wind turbine work? ![]() It’s like a miniature version of the much bigger wind turbines you’ve likely seen around the UK, in fields, or just off the coast. What is a domestic wind turbine?Ī domestic, or home wind turbine, is a device that can turn wind energy into clean electricity for your home. Still curious? Read on to find out everything you need to know about home wind turbines. This is why sleek solar panels remain the more popular choice for homeowners who want to go green. However, they’re also expensive, and need a lot of unobstructed space to generate energy (which means they won’t work in the average back garden). They can help cut down on bills, and they make guilt-free green energy. After all, we are the windiest country in Europe 2 – which won’t surprise you if you’ve ever taken a windswept walk along the British coastline!īut what if you want to cut out the middleman, and install a wind turbine of your very own at home?ĭomestic wind turbines are on the rise. In 2020, wind turbines generated more than half of our electricity 1. There’s a strong chance that wind is already powering your home here in the UK, at least some of the time.

Write a concise resume summary about your qualifications and how it relates to the position you’re seeking. Leave off your high school and any certifications that don’t pertain to the job at hand. Since the professional resume template is designed to underscore your talents, you should list all relevant certifications and education experiences. These include software knowledge or specific capabilities like client relations, technical writing, or foreign languages. Be sure to include your top skills, namely “hard skills” - those that are more technical-based. The professional resume template highlights your skills in order to emphasize your competency. Check out our list of 350+ action verbs to make your resume more effective. Since the main focus is on what you’re saying, you need to use strong verbs that convey your abilities. However, leave out entry-level positions or student experiences in order to maximize the professionality of the resume (unless you’re just starting your career, in which case, you have to use those!). This means your work experience is the focal point, and you should include all relevant positions. The professional resume has few design elements in order to amplify the body of the resume itself. Hives, irritants, or contact exposures on the skin can lead to a somewhat similar phenomenon as dry skin. “This causes tissue redness, swelling, and nerve irritation that are then interpreted by our body as itch,” she explains. Get it at: Geomanist at Atipo Other Proxima Nova Alternatives What it’s got: 9 weights + 1 italic weight ![]() Nonethless, this is an underutilized font and worth considering! Proxima Nova’s distinctively low crossbars for “A”, “R”, and “P” melt away into something with a lot less punch. Geomanist has a lot of the same character as Proxima Nova in lowercase, but the reason it appears last on this list is because a lot of that falls away in uppercase. The sturdy Geomanist lacks italics for all weights except regular, but has a similar geometric (go figure) vibe as Proxima Nova. What it’s got: 9 weights + italics also available as a variable font This one tweak alone will not only knock out the overly-stylized “W”, but almost make a number of other characters (“a”, “d”, “l”, “u”, “G”) into their more Proxima Nova-like twins. For max Proxima Nova feel, you’ll want to use font-feature-settings: "ss01" 1, "ss03" 1, "ss05" 1, "ss08" 1, "ss09" 1, "ss11" 1 in your CSS selectors. Fortunately, the font comes with a number of OpenType alternate character styles. The original Raleway has this “W” that sticks out like a sore thumb, making an otherwise solid body font into something that feels too gimmicky. Raleway is a popular Google Font that I recommend freshening up with some alternate character forms. In uppercase, some distinctive characters (Montserrat’s “Q”, “G”) can be dead giveaways for IDing the font, but Proxima Nova’s distinctive uppercase feel (look at the low “A” crossbar or the squat “R” leg) is still there. ![]() With 9 weights and italics, it’s an incredible font in its own right – though heavily used, for this very reason. If you love the latter but can only afford the former, check it out. While there are some differences, Montserrat and Proxima Nova are very much cut of the same cloth. The fantastic Montserrat is another great and similar font to Proxima Nova. What it’s got: 7 weights, no italics also available as a variable font Figtree follows suit, though not as idiosyncratically. Proxima Nova has lowered crossbars in “A”, “R”, and “P”, which makes it feel stocky and solid. Figtree has a more round, friendly way of doing things, but the two share a similar vibe nonetheless.įigtree takes some inspiration from the capitals of fonts like Proxima Nova and Gotham. Proxima Nova’s defining characteristic – besides its neat, clean feel – is the way the bowls connect to stems (in glyphs like “a”, “n”, “d”, “g”, etc). Figtreeįigtree has a similar vibe to Proxima Nova. Since Proxima Nova is frequently used – and quite distinctive – in uppercase, it’s worth looking at a direct comparison in that setting. ![]() There's a fair amount of gubbins to get through at the start in setting up Uncharted 4's story, and a bit of that is entirely just referencing the previous three games. I've probably made this joke before, but the real treasure of the game is the friendship they find along the way.Īll this is well and good, of course, but I did append a "probably" up top there. Sam has a lot of swagger and bravado, but he's also spent a lot of time in prison, so he's got a case of the arrested developments, and like Nate he has a lot of trouble articulating his actual feelings. The Drakes' brotherly dynamic is both funny and actually poignant at times. Sam is just a super fun character to add to the mix. I said the other day that I miss the 80s-style leading man, who was just, like, a dude with a skrunkly little face and a receding hairline, but enough charisma to change the moon's orbit. But suffice it to say, Uncharted 4 gives Nate some actual character and emotional depth, as well as understandable problems in his close relationships. He didn't even tell Elena, now his wife, that Sam existed (he also, when catching Sam up on his entire life up to then, forgets to tell Sam that he's married, which, okay). In Uncharted 4, however, it is revealed that the entire time he had a secret older brother, who he thought had died like 15 years beforehand, and he has never spoken about him, at all. This isn't bad, incidentally it worked for both the character and the game. Before, the most emotional complexity you got in an Uncharted game was him fancying Elena but pretending he didn't, which is some schoolyard bro level of feelings. Thing is, he's also a sad adrenaline junkie trapped in the past. He's married, he's sort of middle-aged, and he's given up adventuring to work on underwater salvage. Playing Uncharted 4 means you get to meet Nathan Drake at his most interesting. Uncharted 4 has a sort of "See that mountain? You can climb it!" thing going on, except in almost literally every level the camera says, "See that impressive ruin off in the distance? You're gunna climb it!" There's a secret pirate village, a ruined cathedral in Scotland, and some breathtaking scenes in Madagascar, but also, in a first for the series, there are serious emotions. There are some incredible and ridiculous set-pieces. ![]() Tastemaker, baby!Īll the stuff that Uncharted is good at, Uncharted 4 is the goodest at. You want tombs? Jungles? Some supernatural stuff? We got it all! But we also have climbable ledges marked with yellow or white in a way that will be ubiquitous in a couple of years. Nate, his father figure/seaplane pilot Sully, and plucky love interest Elena ably filled the gap when there weren't any good Tomb Raider games. Underneath the shirt, of course, was a rollicking action adventure, the sort of thing where most problems can be solved with a gun or, failing that, an explosion. To be honest, most of what I remember was that weird amount of focus on the shirt. There was also a lot of talk about his shirt: how it got wet if you went in water, and then dried off, and would become visibly more torn and weathered as he went through his adventure. I remember there being a lot of excitement about how, if you walked into some set dressing, the square-jawed handsome McMan Nate Drake would put his arm up as if leaning on or pushing past it. I myself have been onboard the Uncharted train (the same one hanging off the side of a cliff, through which you must climb whilst avoiding gunfire and falling cargo) from the word go.
